WMU Western View apartment-style residences
KALAMAZOO, Michigan — The Western Michigan University Board of Trustees has approved a slight increase in rates for on-campus apartments and apartment-style residential units, keeping WMU rental rates in line with the surrounding community, with rates for fall 2018 ranging from $ 8 to $ 19 per month.
The board’s decision was taken at its December 12 meeting.
Beginning in Fall 2018, the Goldsworth Valley and Stadium Drive Apartments will be rented per room rather than per unit in response to student feedback. Monthly unfurnished rates will increase by 2%, ranging from $ 394 to $ 683 per room, depending on the unit chosen. Furnished apartments are available at an additional cost. The WMU apartments are currently 94% occupied.
Operating at 98% occupancy, Western View apartment-style residences continue to be in high demand throughout the year. Fares for fall 2018 will increase 2.5 percent, with monthly charges ranging from $ 481 to $ 764 per person. One-bedroom apartments will increase by $ 19 per month, two-bedroom units will increase by $ 14 per person, and three- or four-bedroom units will increase by $ 12 per person.
Additional amenities at Western View, such as furnished units or extended floor plans, are available at an additional cost. Students can find out more about the options at wmich.edu/housing/westernview.
Elmwood Apartments will close at the end of the Spring 2018 semester to prepare for the future needs of the campus in the South Residential District. Current residents have already been notified of the resort’s closure at the end of their contract. In order to minimize the impact on students, building demolitions will take place during the summer.
Students living in residential areas of WMU enjoy the safety of campus life with convenient access to classes, special events and academic services.
