Joo Kodit reinvents rental living by testing whole new ways to create vibrant neighborhood communities. The café, which will open in a building currently under construction, will be an inviting and welcoming local meeting place for all.
Apartment rental company Joo Kodit will open a multipurpose café and event space in its new Oulun Mallastohtori apartment complex, to be completed in late 2022 in the Toppilansalmi district of Oulu. The cafe, called Joo Hetki, will be open to everyone. For residents of the apartment complex, it serves as a common living room where it is easy to meet neighbors and spend time together.
– According to market research we commissioned, one in three people living in rental accommodation have experienced loneliness at home. However, people also said they were interested in getting to know their neighbors. As an apartment rental company, we want to encourage this by creating meeting places for our residents, explains the commercial director of Joo Kodit, Heta Karki.
Joo Kodit has more than 700 rental apartments around Oulu, with around 350 more to be completed in 2022. Besides commissioning new apartments, Joo Kodit is actively developing the neighborhoods. Toppilansalmi only has a few services left, and we aim to make a difference, says Josefina Toikkathe Oulu representative of Joo Kodit.
– Many of our residents live alone in their very first apartment. They can come to the cafe to have breakfast, study or just relax. Joo Hetki will also serve as a customer service point, for example when residents need to collect the keys to their new apartment. We want to be an accessible company that offers personalized service and makes renting an apartment as carefree as possible.
Interior design by Joo Hetki is by Bond Creative Agency and the menu revolves around delicious local treats. Joo Hetki is currently looking for cafe staff to help create a community spirit in the neighborhood and organize events requested by residents, such as flea markets.
Oulun Mallastohtori and Joo Hetki are built by local construction company Temotek.
– Having services at your fingertips and inspiring a sense of community are also important values for us. We see this as part of building a better quality of life. We are building Temotek’s own apartments in the same block, and of course Joo Hetki will also delight its residents, says Temotek Residential Project Manager for Oulu, Antti Löfbacka.
Neighborhood cafe Joo Hetki is just one of the many ways Joo Kodit is reinventing rental living. Other innovations include furnished Joo+ apartments, shared cars, free sauna shifts and group exercise classes.
